Morgan Michna, Communications Assistant
New to our team in 2016

I discovered early on — from dissecting a cat’s heart in my anatomy class in high school — that I am better suited to wield a pen than a scalpel.

Morgan is a natural storyteller, both with words and via multimedia. She channels her natural curiosity to get to the heart of the matter, a figurative dissection process that she applies to individuals, communities, organizations, and issues of the day. She hails from a medical family and has discovered a passion for global health.

For her undergraduate honors thesis at the University of Oregon Clark Honors College, Morgan explored the 2014 Ebola outbreak in Africa, by analyzing the social media narratives from international health agencies and traditional news media in Ghana and the U.S.

Morgan holds a B.A. in journalism with a concentration in public relations. She completed a PR internship at a global interactive entertainment company and also worked, while still in college, for a student-run PR firm. She has held communications and marketing positions in various nonprofits, focusing on legal and education issues.

In 2013, Morgan studied for a semester at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú in Lima. While abroad, she regularly volunteered in an elementary school teaching English to third graders in the city’s Villa el Salvador district. Morgan continues to work on improving her Spanish, which she currently describes as functional. She looks forward to returning to Lima with Heart to Heart in 2017.
