“The best part of my job is traveling to our partner sites in Russia and Latin America to work with our colleagues directly. Seeing the patients we help in person proves the point that what Heart to Heart does is needed and worthwhile.”
Albina Popova began working for Heart to Heart originally as an intern in 2010, shortly after graduating from college. She was attracted to Heart to Heart’s mission because of its humanitarian focus and emphasis on sustainability.
Since joining Heart to Heart’s small office staff, Albina has coordinated and participated over ten mission trips to our partner sites in Rostov-on-Don, Kaliningrad, Chelyabinsk, and Lima. Year-round, with Heart to Heart’s seasoned statistician, Albina focuses on collecting, tracking, and coordinating analyses of surgical outcomes data from all of our collaborative sites. She also provides administrative leadership on the ground at Heart to Heart’s Kaliningrad and Chelyabinsk sites.
Albina holds a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley in Economics and Political Economies of Industrial Societies. She was born in a small town near Moscow and moved with her family to Northern California permanently when she was eleven years old. She is bilingual in English and Russian, and is currently studying Spanish. She enjoys interpreting, learning about cardiac medicine, observing open heart surgery, and taking photos of our adorable young patients. She has worked in the non-profit sector since 2007.
